Responsibility

What is PAT Testing?
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is a vital part of a company or individuals responsibility to health and safety and more importantly enables companies to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. This is done using a series of specialised testing procedures on your portable appliances.

Is Portable Appliance Testing a legal requirement?
PAT Testing or portable appliance testing is a specialized process of testing all portable electrical appliances to ensure they are safe to use. It is a legal requirement, and your responsibility as an employer, to make sure that all electrical appliances in the workplace are regularly maintained and in good repair. It is therefore recommended good practice to test the appliances are safe to use by means of PAT Testing.

Is PAT testing disruptive?
Our team work swiftly and efficiently to minimise any disruption in the workplace by only disconnecting items as they are tested.

Does PAT Testing affect insurance cover?
Insurance companies assume when giving cover that there is compliance with all necessary regulations. An insurance company may reduce, delay or even refuse to pay a claim for damage if an appliance that has not been tested is the cause.

What needs testing?
According to the Health and Safety Executive 25% of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances. To comply with Health and Safety at Work directives, all portable electrical appliances require regular testing to ensure they are safe. That is usually anything with a plug, although The National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers defines a portable appliance as any electrical item which can, or is intended, to be moved whilst connected to an electrical supply.

What's involved?

Time involved in PAT testing aims to avoid disruption in the workplace and will depend on the number of appliances that require testing. Our engineers can test up to 25 appliances per hour, minimising downtime to ensure a cost-effective turnaround for your business.

Same day callout can easily be arranged, or you can book your PAT testing slot weeks, or months in advance. Insurance companies recommend PAT testing once a year and many clients book a repeat annual inspection.
